Before we reach Beinn Bhreach we must travel through the dark wood. This part of the journey is anticipated as soon as we’ve crossed the tiny bridge that brings us to Beinn Bhreach mountain. The Range Rover rambles along the gravel and dirt road, as only a 4×4 can maneuver, and suddenly sunlight is filtered into darkness as the pines along the rocky road loom overhead. We talk in spooky voices as the tires bounce through pot holes and ditches. “It’s the dark wood…” we say aloud, mimicking speakers of ghost stories and scary movies, as we pretend to watch for monsters within.
